From Fishwives to Factory Girls: Arbroath Women’s Heritage Trail

Meet at the Fit O’ the Toon for a specially narrated heritage walk by Blythe Stockdale.The Arbroath Women’s Heritage Trail draws attention to the inspiring nature of women’s contributions to Arbroath and wider society through stories from voices often overlooked. Beginning at the Fit O’ the Toon, this trail leads the audience through the streets in which Arbroath’s fishwives, factory girls and activists once lived, worked and campaigned.

Declaration of Arbroath Heritage Trail

Saturday 3 July 3pm start

Meet at Arbroath Abbey for a specially narrated heritage walk by Blythe Stockdale.Mimicking the journey the Declaration of Arbroath may have taken in commencing its long voyage from Arbroath Abbey to Avignon; this trail explores our relationship with the Declaration on both a national and local scale, considering its legacy and what it means to us in 2021.This is part of a series of heritage trails around Arbroath developed by Blythe Stockdale. Steaming Forward: Industrial Revolution Heritage Trail

Sunday 11 July, 11am

Meet at the burn by Den’s works for a specially narrated heritage walk by Blythe Stockdale.Setting out across old mills and a disused railway line, this trail explores the rise and fall of Arbroath’s Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th centuries. Examining the changes which industrialisation and urbanisation brought to the town and its surrounding rural areas, the trail invites the audience to consider the lasting impact this transition has had on our communities, environment and way of life. This is part of a series of heritage trails around Arbroath developed by Blythe Stockdale.
