Angus Writers Circle Event - Arbroath Festival

2020+1 Programme

Angus Writers Circle Event

Thursday 29 July 7pm

A Kist of Scots

Join us for a special event in the beautiful gardens of Hospitalfield. Live readings, discussions and music showcasing new literary works from ‘A Kist of Scots’.  The new anthology by Angus Writers Circle.

Free to attend, booking required.

A Kist of Scots is a collection of poetry and prose, fiction and non-fiction, from members of Angus Writers’ Circle. The anthology is a celebration of Angus, of Scotland, of our forebears, our folklore, our landscape, our past and our future, with the fantastic support of the Arbroath 2020+1.

The Circle is very proud of its Angus roots, and has been meeting locally for thirty years, providing a central meeting place for writers from all over the county. As founder member David Wishart remarks in the anthology’s foreword, the club offers two things which are vital to the budding author – ‘encouragement and a captive audience’!

It’s certainly true that members take a keen interest in the work of their fellow writers, lending a listening ear, applauding success, and commiserating with the inevitable rejections which are a feature of the creative life. Although unable to meet physically in these unusual times, the Circle has been providing a virtual lifeline for members with regular Zoom sessions and guest speakers.

Putting together the anthology, with the fantastic support of the Arbroath 2020+1 and community partners, was not only a welcome distraction, but a labour of love. Seeing their work in print has provided a massive boost for members. It is a reminder of why they love to write, and also an opportunity to celebrate their talents and bring them before the world at this most exciting of times! More than that, the anthology is a celebration of Angus, of Scotland, of our forebears, our folklore, our landscape, our past and our future.

Angus Writers’ Circle hope that you’ll enjoy this collection as much as they enjoyed bringing it all to together.
